  • Form 16: Certificate provided by your employer summarizing salary paid and tax deducted during the financial year.

4. Filing Your First Income Tax Return (ITR-1 Sahaj)

  2. Cross-Check AIS with Form 16: Log in to the official Income Tax portal (eportal.incometax.gov.in) and verify that savings bank interest and FD interest match AIS records.
  3. Select ITR-1: Use ITR-1 Sahaj if total income is under ₹50 Lakh from salary, one house property, and other sources (interest).
  4. E-Verify Within 30 Days: File the return and e-verify immediately using Aadhaar OTP to complete the statutory process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cost to Company (CTC) includes direct components (Basic pay, HRA, Special Allowance) and indirect employer contributions (Employer EPF contribution, gratuity provision, group medical insurance premiums, and performance bonus). Monthly take-home further deducts employee EPF (12% of basic), professional tax (₹200/month in most states), and TDS (Tax Deducted at Source).
Under the New Tax Regime (Section 115BAC), a standard deduction of ₹75,000 applies to salaried individuals, and taxable income up to ₹7,00,000 receives a full tax rebate under Section 87A. Consequently, salaried individuals earning up to ₹7,75,000 pay zero income tax.
Form 16 is an annual TDS certificate issued by employers by June 15 following the end of the financial year. Part A contains employer TAN, employee PAN, and quarterly TDS deposits credited to the Central Government. Part B details salary breakdown, perquisites, deductions, and final tax computed.
