Every HTML element has a default display value determined by the CSS rendering specification. Historically, HTML elements were classified into two primary categories: Block and Inline.

Characteristic	Block Elements	Inline Elements
Starting Position	Always begins on a brand new line.	Flows within the current line of text.
Width	Stretches to fill 100% of available parent width.	Takes up only as much width as its content requires.
Height & Width CSS	Respects `width`, `height`, and vertical margins.	Ignores `width`, `height`, and vertical margins.
